What are "Display Sirens"
Display sirens are warning sirens that have been taken down and put up for display or put into a scrap yard for storage. Many sirens are displayed across New Jersey. Most are inside museums or outside fire departments, and some are in what's known as siren graveyards.
Why display a siren?
This is a complicated answer because many people have different reasons for wanting to display a warning siren. Usually, the reason is because of the historical presence in a community. Some examples of this can be found in the municipalities of Paramus, Ramtown, Whippany, and Repaupo to name a few. These sirens are not for sale and are there for their historical presence. However, these are not the only kinds of displays that are around. As mentioned before there are what's known as siren graveyards, these are usually packed with sirens that are decommissioned or no longer in service. They usually sit there and rust until a buyer comes along or a scrapper. Although they are not usually accessible to the public at large, sometimes tours are offered if asked.

An Example of a Display Siren
One of the best examples of a display siren is in Whippany, New Jersey in their Fire Department. The siren was a fire and civil defense siren throughout its service. The siren was mounted next to the fire station on 440 Route 10, Whippany, New Jersey (on the corner of School St). This siren is a Federal Enterprise Model 7 and has been restored to a red color. It used to sound every day at 5:00 p.m. however it stopped testing. It would also alert kids of a snow day by sounding at 7:00 a.m. However, since the fire department has moved to a new fire department they have taken the siren down and decided to keep it as a display in their historical section of the department. CD Sirens NJ was able to visit the fire department with permission and able to get photos and information.
Lastly, a huge thank you is needed to express the gratitude that we have with the fire department allowing us to write this section about the fire siren along with getting the photos.
